Come join us for an evening of sublime poetry on the "Beloved" in all its myriad metaphors, adorned with original melodies from the creative vaults of Hindustani composer and vocalist Pooja Goswami Pavan and her ensemble of top-flight co-artists.
The same team that earlier brought you multiple themed musical presentations, will present "Aa Mil Yaara", a musical journey into the poetic landscape of the "Beloved", on Saturday, November 9, 7:00pm at the Plymouth Playhouse Theater.
The "Beloved" in Indian poetry has served for ages as a profound symbol of longing, connection, and transcendence, reflecting the complexities of human emotions and spiritual aspirations. The concept of the Beloved in Indian poetry is rich and multifaceted, often symbolizing love, beauty, and the divine and is present in various poetic traditions of the land, including classical (Kalidasa, Ghalib), Bhakti (Mirabai, Surdas), Nirguni (Kabir, Guru Nanak), Sufi (Bulleh Shah, Amir Khusrou) and contemporary poetry. The Beloved embodies a rich tapestry of emotions and interpretations, such as, spiritual longing, love and desire, nature and beauty, and social and cultural commentary.
In this unique presentation, you will get to hear some of India's most iconic poets' haunting verses, as "Odes to the Beloved", from, the devotional to the spiritual, the romantic to the erotic and the mystical to the philosophical. Among the poets featured will be Bulleh Shah, Baba Farid, Kabir, Meera, Ghalib and others.
Pooja's regular musical cohorts, Kedar Naphade (Harmonium), Pankaj Mishra (Sarangi) and A. Pavan (Tabla), will be joined by Flute Raman (Bansuri) and Abhinav Sharma (Dholak/Percussion) in this special concert.
We
hope you can join us in this musical soiree and conversation.
Cheers.
Pooja and team
